I am chasing a supposed marriage between a Reverend
William TATE and a Mary RODDAM sometime in the late 1700’s. William was reputed
to be in charge of the Naval College at Portsmouth and Mary was noted as having

Myself and a number of other great great grandchildren of Robson
WALTON are finding his birth and parentage to be one of our main 'brick
walls'. What we know about him is that (according to the 1851 census) he was
born about 1806 in Newcastle, NBL. On 4th Feb 1830, he married Mary MORPETH
at Allendale Parish Church, NBL.
Blank
Line
At some stage prior to 1851, the couple moved to Cramlington, NBL, as they
appear in the census of that year, living at 75 West Cramlington, with their
children, William aged 19, Rachel aged 16, Thomas aged 14, Mary aged 9, John
aged 6, Robson aged 1 year and a grandson, John Walton.
Blank
Line
They lived in the same place until Robson WALTON died as a result of head
injuries due to a roof fall at Cramlington Colliery where he worked, on
5th March 1870. He is buried in Cramlington Churchyard.
Blank
Line
Robson WALTON's birth/baptism does not appear on the IGI. Any help
to establish his parentage would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has access to
the 1861 census for Cramlington, I would be interested to see if his
place of birth was confirmed as being Newcastle upon Tyne on that census. (Entered

I've received a copy of a brief from Lancaster
Midsummer Sessions 1803, in which John GRAVESON and his sister Elizabeth DODGSON
are required to support their aged parents, George GRAVESON & Barbara
(nee SMITH). Elizabeth is ordered to pay 3/6 per week to Old Geo. GRAVESON
& 3/6 per week to his wife. "The Township to be reimbursed sixteen
pounds expended already for the maintenance of the paupers". "Mrs. ATKINSON,
wife of Capt ATKINSON, who resides in the same Parish & of
considerable property, but as she is at present under coverture, it is presumed
the Township cannot compel any assistance from her or her husband". It
seems Mrs. ATKINSON is let off simply because she is married whereas her
widowed sister is liable to support her parents. The Township is Cartmel Fell,
LAN.
There were other children to George & Barbara, e.g., George 1754-1810. Why do you
think George wasn't summonsed? Too poor? I think he still lived in the area. George
senior d.1807 & Barbara d.1809 so Elizabeth had to go on paying for a few
years. John was my ancestor. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has experience
of a similar order & any comments will be welcome.

My ancestor John GREEN was bapt. 20 Feb

married Elizabeth SHIPLEY 29 Dec 1804, Allendale, NBL. In 1823 he's John GREEN,
smelter of Keenly, NBL & in 1826 he's smelter of Far Syke Burn, Allendale.
By 1851 he's living in Nenthead, CUL & gives his birthplace as Nickelfield,

I would like to find the marriage of my father
Michael HART, born in 1876, died in 1935 and buried in Barrow-in-Furness,
WES, where I was born and later left in 1938. Unknown to me he was married and
widowed before he married my mother, which meant I had half brothers and sisters
I knew nothing about. They are buried in Barrow cemetery with his first wife
Rose. The reason I search for his first marriage is so that I can get information
about his father and mother and where he was born, as death certificates do not
carry this sort of data. His wife's first name was Rose her maiden name might
have been REYNOLDS, but that is only a guess. Their first child was born in 1918
and dad was a shipyard tradesman so it is possible he moved about . (Submitted

I am currently researching the WAUGH family from Northumberland and I
am very interested in Elizabeth WAUGH b 25th Aug 1883, Cambois, NBL.
On 23rd Mar 1901, at St. Albans Church, Earsdon, NBL, she married William Cutter
COLE, b 17 Apr 1877, Cambois. Elizabeth was a servant at Link House,
Cambois in 1903, when she had a child called Gertrude Ann Dunford COLE.
However, the father is not named on the Birth Certificate and the name DUNFORD
does not appear anywhere in the family tree so far. I have traced Elizabeth's
parents, a Joshua or Joseph WAUGH and Margaret ALLAN. She also had
four sisters Florence, Ada, Laura & Ruby and a brother Robert Allan (Allen) WAUGH.
I'm interested in where the name DUNFORD comes from or any
information no matter how small about this family. (Submitted

At present I am researching two community emigrations from Weardale,
DUR and would welcome any available information.
(1) In 1832, 124 people emigrated to Canada sponsored by the London Lead
Company.
(2) In 1879, 53 people emigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand on the ship
"Margaret Galbraith" sailing from Plymouth.
A colleague is due to visit New Zealand in December 2004 to carry out some
research and I would like to contact descendants of the emigrants who sailed to
New Zealand on the ship 'Margaret Galbraith' in 1879. (Updated
