I am searching
for Jane PARKER who reputedly had two illegitimate children by Nicholas TODD b 1782, of Tofts and later of Stonecroft, NBL. The children were Jane TODD born 1809 and Nicholas PARKER born 1825. Jane TODD became 'a woman of substance' and lived at Newbrough Park. Her brother Nicholas PARKER lived a quieter life and is buried in Newbrough Church yard. Jane TODD died 1882, Newbrough Park, she and her father Nicholas TODD who died 1863 are buried at Haydon, St Cuthbert, NBL, but I have been unable to find any information on where Jane PARKER came from or what happened to her.
Blank Line
In his will of 1863 Nicholas TODD left his reputed daughter Jane TODD £10,000 of his estate and his reputed son Thomas PARKER a contractor of Stone croft £3000. Provision was also made for wife and children. When Jane TODD died she left her entire estate to Thomas PARKER and his family. (Submitted May 2006)

Searching for Walter STEPHENSON, born 1822, Northumberland. Walter married Ann DONKIN, 17 Jan 1848, St Andrews, Newcastle, NBL, on the marriage cert his father's name is Robert STEPHENSON and the occupation of both is builder. I have found Walter on the 1841 census living at Jesmond Vale, Newcastle, NBL, unfortunately not with his parent's, it looks like he may have been living with his grandparents, Stephen STEPHENSON and Catherine (possibly MARKHAM or MAUGHAN). If anyone could throw any light on this I would be very grateful, as I really need the names of his parents and date of bapt. (Submitted May 2006)

My grandfather Fred PHILIPSON (ARMSTRONG), b 1898, Stanhope, DUR, was one of two children born to Thomas William ARMSTRONG, b 1871, Stanhope and Jane PHILIPSON, b 1870, East Blackdene, although they never married. Fred was brought up by the ARMSTRONG's, while his sister Elizabeth Grace PHILIPSON was brought up by the PHILIPSON's. Fred later dropped the name PHILIPSON & took his fathers name. Fred's grandparents were Thomas ARMSTRONG, b 1842, Stanhope and Mary Ann HEATHERINGTON. Thomas's father was William ARMSTRONG, b 1808 and William's father was also a William, b 1770. Jane PHILIPSON later married George William SCOTT in 1897, after her 'lover' Thomas William ARMSTRONG had gone to South Africa prior to the Boer War, where it is believed he died.
Blank Line
Thomas William ARMSTRONG, b 1871 had a sister Margaret, b 1869, who married William Arthur THOMPSON. Another sister Mary Jane, b circa 1879, married Joseph WEARMOUTH, in 1907, resulting in 3 children, Ellen, Thomas & Blanche. Thomas married Olive FORREST in1930.

There are 2 Todburn's in NBL, near Long Horsley and near Slayley, I can not find one in CUL. No record for a Richard LITTLE  in areas mentioned only a birth and marriage at Haydon Bridge, NBL, in 1684 and 1705 respectively, difficult to believe this is the father of John christened 1731. Blank Line
MELDRUM originating in Sunderland, DUR but alternating between there and Hartlepool, DUR from 1790 to 1910+.  Original couple of John and Mary had children Robert, John and Isabella. I’m particularly interested in any connection to Hellen MELDRUM/WALLER/HUNTER – great grandmother who disappears after 1903/4.  Name then was Hellen/Ellen/Nellie HUNTER, but could have reverted back to WALLER.
Blank Line
NICHOLSON originating in Sunderland, DUR from 1799 to present day. Original couple of John and Mary married in 1799 and had children James, George, Mary Ann, Amelia and Elizabeth. My line is from George and I can trace Elizabeth’s line, but nothing on the others.

WALLER in Darlington and Sunderland, DUR from mid 1870’s – William and Alice had living children William Robert, Alice and George Henry. William and second wife Caroline had children Ada and Thomas Henry, moving to Sunderland early 1880’s, staying to present day. Particularly interested in grandma Kate Laura WALLER (born 1883 in South Africa ) she married John NICHOLSON in Sunderland in 1904, but when she died in 1940 she was living as man & wife with John SMILES in South Shields, DUR.

Seeking information on William Blackett RICHARDSON and his family. His Death Certificate in NSW, Australia states he was born Pittymill, DUR, but Pittymill may be an error. His parents were John RICHARDSON & Mary and he married Jane PEACOCK, 1845, Shildon, DUR. Three children were born in England before William & Jane emigrated to New Zealand, in 1859, with their daughter Mary Ann, on the ship 'Harwood'. Two sons Matthew b.1845 & John H RICHARDSON b. 1848, both  Shildon, DUR, remained in England with Jane's parents Michael & Jane PEACOCK.
Blank Line
Mary Ann RICHARDSON became my wife's Gt. Grandmother in Australia and I would be grateful for any information (1) About her birth, we have a Death Certificate that states Mary Ann was born in Leeds, WRY, circa 1853/54, but who knows for sure? (2) What happened to sons Matthew & John H left behind in England. (3) Anything at all about grandparents Michael & Jane PEACOCK.

Jane RICHARDSON (nee PEACOCK) died 1864 in New Zealand, following which her husband William Blackett RICHARDSON married Ann Jane McCUTCHEON and the new family migrated to New South Wales, Australia, where they settled in the Newcastle region. Mary Ann RICHARDSON became Mary Ann DENT on marriage and on her children's Birth Certificates she is stated as being born approx 1854 in Leeds. (Submitted May 2006)

I am digging for information about John ROBSON. All I know is he was dead by 1841. He fathered at least 1 child Robert ROBSON (who in 1842 married Mary Holder OXX), but I am pretty certain I have linked John to a wife Jane born c 1798. If this is correct he also fathered John ROBSON c1822, plus siblings George c1825, Jane c1829, Isabella c1831 and William c1834 (who married another Jane ??? and had at least 2 children by 1881 - John Thomas and Margaret).
Blank Line
In 1841 a widowed Jane ROBSON is living in Longbenton and a lot of the marriages of my ancestors were married or bapt in All Saints Church, Newcastle, NBL. I have found 2 possible surnames for Jane - either TODD or EDMUNDS but I can not find any evidence to prove or disprove either.
Blank Line
I also have a suspicion that Joseph ROBSON (c1823) is somehow related. I think he married an Ann FOSTER (c1826-) but the surname is only an educated guess. He later moved to Wiltshire with his child Robert Foster ROBSON. He
also had other children Joseph Peter, Martha (who married Robert KEEL), Samuel and Margaret.

Researching my WOOLER family history which has come to a halt with Jonathan WOOLER who mar Mary Ann or Ann b. c 1797, d. 19 Aug 1844. Jonathan and Mary Ann had children with some unusual names:-  Napoleon Washington WOOLER, b 1818 NBL, d 1885, Brentford, mar Eliza OLIVER 1842, Lavinia WOOLER, b c 1821 m James BAILE, Caroline WOOLER, b c 1825,  Ellen WOOLER, b c 1824, Newcastle, NBL, Lafayette Cartwright WOOLER, b 1828 Gateshead, DUR, m Martha HEAL, Thomas WOOLER, b c 1833, Thomas Kosciusko WOOLER, b 1842, Newcastle, m Eliza Jane GOSS. Others have assumed that Jonathan WOOLER was born 1774 Wolsingham, DUR, died 1853, Brentford (Kew) based on the person present at his death sharing the name (Eliza) and living in the same area (Turnham Green) as the wife of Napoleon Washington WOOLER. However, whilst this would be ideal because of the well documented WOOLER's of Wolsingham, it would mean that Mary Ann was his second wife, his first marriage was to Ann WOOLER at St Luke’s, Old St, Finsbury, London, 10 Nov 1811, and other events and data do not seem too convincing. Have you come across this family during your studies? Your information and assistance could bring a few years of questioning to an end. This was Michael Snr's first marriage and was a joint ceremony with his brother John born 1786. Another brother George was born 1788. Isabella (Snr) must have died before 1822 as that is when Michael remarried to Jane CASH. Would like to know more about Michael & Jane and about Michael's occupation as a glassman

I am trying to find details of my paternal Gt. Grandmother Edith COOK, who I believe was born in Alston, CUL. My paternal Grandmother was Annie Evelyn Mary BARRON, who married Albert William YOUNG, born 24 Sept 1908, Quebec, DUR. They lived in Barnet, London (Bells Hill) and had my father Hugh Alan YOUNG.  Sadly we know very little about my grandmother as my father has not seen her since he was five years old although I do believe she did try to make contact in the 1970’s.  We believe she also had another child, a boy who would be my father’s half brother. Therefore, would appreciate any information regarding the YOUNG family of Quebec, DUR, during late 1800's, early 1900's.

I am looking for information on the GLANCY & MIDDLETON families. The GLANCY's were of Irish descent and lived in Gilesgate, Hexham, NBL, 1850 to 1880. The MIDDLETON's lived in Gilesgate and the Holy Island area of Hexham, 1800 to1937. I have a photo dated 1898, of the MIDDLETON family, which includes Mary MIDDLETON (nee GLANCY) and is of good quality.

My grandfather Patrick McGLEN and his wife Mary, both born Ireland 1826 and 1828 respectively, had a son Patrick born Ireland 1844. I understand they came to Whitehaven, CUL,  about 1846-1851 where further children were born. They then moved to Washington, DUR.  I also have MATHER ancestors who lived in Carlisle after moving from Ireland. My Great grandfather Soloman came from Ireland and I believe his mother was called Mary MURPHY, also from Ireland.

I am descended from James SMALLHORN who emigrated to Australia in the 1860s from the largely Huguenot town of Portarlington in Ireland. All SMALLHORN families in Australia, USA, Canada, although only very distantly related, have the same family story of three Huguenot brothers who went to Portarlington and that the name was anglicized from the French CHALHAUN (or something similar). The IGI records show SMALLHORNS in the Portarlington area in the late 17th century.
Blank Line
I am fascinated by the occurrence of the name SMALLHORN (variations include SMALHORNE) occurring in Cumberland (Dalston) in the late 16th century and Otley, Ilkely, Kildwick, Silsden and Addingham in the early 17th century then seeming to disappear. I thought that perhaps if SMALLHORN was an English surname in its own right, then the name might be more common and more widespread. I am therefore very interested to know if there might be a connection between these English SMALLHORN's and my ancestors.
Blank Line
I have also come across reference to a Walloon name SMALLAAN in the Netherlands and wonder if that is a more likely original name than CHALHAUN.
Blank Line
I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has researched the SMALLHORNS in the north of England.
