I am looking for further details of my 2 x Gt. Grandfather George
Charles Velinder FAWCETT/FAUCETT
born about 1848, Yorkshire and apparently married with two daughters (names and
ages unknown). He left England for Australia about 1890 and had been there for
approx. 15years before his death in 1905, aged about 57yrs. I have given 2
spelling variations as a newspaper clipping & coroners report have it
listed as FAUCETT but on the death certificate it states FAWCETT.
Any possible leads would be appreciated.

I am trying to find information on the RICHARDSON family of Gill (Ghyll)
House Farm situated just south-west of Alston, CUL, between the Leadgate

daughter of John RICHARDSON and the family would have lived there in the
1700's. Martha married John HENDERSON of Sheepriggs Farm, 18 Oct 1739,
Alston, their son
John was born at Ghyll House in 1742. John HENDERSON of Sheepriggs was
buried next to a RICHARDSON gravestone in Alston churchyard but I have no
record of the information on the RICHARDSON grave. I would appreciate any
information on this family. (Submitted January 2005)

FORD, MOFFAT (Monkwearmouth area, DUR, 19-20thC) MANVELL (Peckham,
LND, 20thC). My father William Richard FORD born 1888, was one of eight
children born to William Richard FORD & Jane SIDDLE.
The others being Elizabeth 1882, Kate 1884, Mary 1886, Robert 1890, Joe 1892,
Eliya 1895 and Edith 1897. Their
father was a boot &
shoe maker and William must have worked with his father at some stage as he was
a skilled shoe repairer.
Later, possibly for family reasons, he left home to live with a sister Marie? in
Roker
Park, Sunderland, DUR. The name MOFFAT has been mentioned, maybe it’s her
married name. William married Elizabeth Harriet MANVELL in Peckham, LND,
in 1924. There were 4 children from this marriage, William
FORD senior
died in November 1950. My Great Grandfather was Joseph Smith FORD

both events took

My Great Grandfather John BEWLEY's born 1836, Caldbeck, CUL,
moved to the Liverpool, LAN
area as a ship's carpenter circa 1850-55. In 1856 he married Johanna HUGHES
(born Amlwch, Anglesey, AGY, in 1832) and they settled in Birkenhead, CHS. Their
six children were John Henry, Elizabeth Mary, Helena Jane, Ann Ellen (who died
young), Thomas Arthur (my grandfather, b 1863, Liverpool, LAN), Martha Louise.
According to marriage certificate of John born 1836, his father was also John
BEWLEY.
By a process of elimination we have come to the conclusion that this John was
born 1808, Caldbeck and married to Sarah SCOTT on 29 Dec 1832. The trail
then goes cold as there are so many Johns in the Caldbeck area born around the
same time. However, a recent path has opened up and I am thinking now that
my 2 x Gt. Grandfather was perhaps the illegitimate son of Rachel BEWLEY,
born 18 Nov 1779 and probably bapt 14 Feb 1780. We know that she died sometime
after 16 Dec 1850. I would welcome confirmation or otherwise, that Rachel BEWLEY
was the mother of John BEWLEY.
Blank Line
I know that Rachel's father was George BEWLEY of Woodhall, born 1749 and
buried at Whelpo Quaker House in 1828. He was the George who started the school
and who lost his house in Hesket Newmarket, CUL, because he had debts to pay. He
was married to Ann TIPPING and they had seven children, Thomas 1774,
George 1776, Thomas 1778, Rachel 1779, William, George, Alice. Rachel married a
Jonathan RICHARDSON, 3 Jun 1815 and had two more sons Thomas & George
Bewley RICHARDSON.
Blank Line
I am
particularly interested in tying my line into the Quaker contingent of BEWLEY's
who hail from Caldbeck. As a Thomas BEWLEY was one of the BEWLEY's
who became an early convert to Quakerism in the 1650's, spent some time in
prison for his faith and had George Fox to stay with him at Woodhall Farm, I am
wondering if my grandfather Thomas BEWLEY is his direct line. (Updated

Also looking for information on the marriage of James WILLIAMSON &
Margery LAIDLER, 1829, Sunderland, DUR. James born 1807, Shetland, SCT,
appears to have been the father of Mary Ann WILLIAMSON, born 1833,
Sunderland, but I can't find any record of it and I need to be certain that
Margery was her mother. By the time of the 1861 census William was widowed and
staying with Mary Ann who was now married to Charles BAKER. I need to
confirm that William was from Scotland and need the death of Margery in order to
determine that I have the right couple. Also does anyone have a Daniel McLEAN
born circa 1790, who in 1814, at St Bees, CUL, married Ann HARDY, born
1792, CUL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

James who was born c1842 in Belfast, IRE and who married Elizabeth TOTTON
before migrating to Australia c1864. Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find information on Joseph ARMSTRONG, born c.1791 who on
19 Sep 1819, at Kendal, WES, married Dorothy ROBINSON, born Kendal. According to
1851 census Joseph was a blacksmith born Alston, CUL, but on the 1861 returns
his birthplace was given as Oston Moor, LAN, a place I have never heard of. It
is quite possible I think to misinterpret Alston and Oston. Amongst his children
were Elizabeth, Isabella, Margaret and possibly others-all were born in Kendal
where the family now lived. His daughter Margaret b.1824 married Joseph HAYTON,
Sep Qtr 1846, Kendal Reg Dist. They were my grandmother's maternal
grandparents. Other names being researched include DINSDALE, LEWTHWAITE, LITT,
LOSH, PAPE, TYSON, (Submitted February 2007)

I am trying to find a link between my 2 x Gt.
Grandfather Thomas William HARWARD and the Duke of Norfolk. I have been led to believe that the link may
be between the HOWARD-GIBBON family who resided in England and Canada.
Thomas William HARWARD was born in
1873, son of Francis HARWARD & Mary NELIGEN. He is nowhere on
the 1881 census and any search we can not find him apart from his marriage to
Catherine Emma TAYLOR, 1893, in London. If anyone has any info on
the HOWARD-GIBBON family especially the DENDY and the Amelia HOWARD-GIBBON
side, I would be most grateful. (Submitted April 2005)
