I am trying to trace back from my 2 x Gt. Grandfather George ARMSTRONG, a blacksmith of Lane Head, Hutton Magna, NRY. George was born c1793 and I believe he was the son of Henry ARMSTRONG, blacksmith of Lane Head, and Elizabeth DOBISON. However, although the Hutton Magna parish records list baptisms of six children to Henry and Elizabeth, George is not among them. The six are Mary (1790), Elizabeth (1791), Sarah (1795), Ann (1797), Mark (1800) and Phebe (1803). It seems unlikely that Henry and George (who married Ann PLACE) would share the same surname and trade in a tiny hamlet such as Lane Head without being related. George was still in Lane Head in 1839 when my great grandfather, also George ARMSTRONG, was born. I am also trying without success to trace the siblings of George Junior who were Jane (1832), Elizabeth (1834), Henry (1835), Mary (1837) and Sarah (1840). I am likewise seeking descendants of the children of George Junior who died in Barningham, DUR, in 1914 and previously lived in Eppleby, NRY and Barnard Castle, DUR. The children, apart from my grandfather Albert Edward (1872) were Elizabeth (1875), Ann (1875), Sarah 1877 George Henry (1879) and Mary (1882).  Any help would be greatly appreciated. First found him on marriage certificate 11th October 1920 when he married Jane Elizabeth WHITAKER in Jarrow, DUR (Elizabeth a Redcar, Marske, NRY Descendant). At marriage William aged 37 and Elizabeth aged 20 living 6, Albion St, Jarrow. William shows father as John COOKE, deceased Steeplejack. No trace of either William or John any Census 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901, Jarrow area. Found William's death 18th March 1953 age 69 so I guess birth was c. 1883/4. Tried births again but no trace. Have been informed that William joined the armyabout age 15. One possible match on 1901 census.

I am researching my family history and have hit a brick wall! My 5 x Gt. Grandfather was a James GIBBESON, born in 1746, Kirk Merrington, DUR. I think that the family has a connection with Northumberland, maybe we came from there but I can't find out who his parents were or if he had any brothers and sisters. Also searching for a Frederick JACKSON, born around 1925, known as Ricky, who later emigrated to Australia. He was likely to have been born in Spennymoor, DUR, as this is where the rest of his family were born and lived at that time. He had
3 sisters, Jean, Margaret and Gwen and one brother Raymond and his father was also Frederick. If anyone can help I would be very very grateful.
