In the 1871 census my PHILIPSON / PHILLIPSON ancestors were living at 58 Hall Street, Barrow in Dalton, WES. Dates for James PHILLIPSON and his wife Mary Ann are only slightly out, but I can't find Isabella their daughter. Also looking for James's mother Isabella, his father (also James) was a shoe maker according to marriage certificate of James PHILLIPSON & Mary Ann FISHER, who married 21st Nov 1863, Kendal, WES. The certificate for James's death in New Zealand states that he married 19th Dec 1864, but this appears to be an error. Seeking any other ancestors or relations to this line. Mary Ann FISHER's father was John FISHER, a nail maker. They left England sometime between 1872-1875 to Invercargill, New Zealand. Marriage certificate said James was a woolen weaver, but by the 1871 census he was a pit moulder. Any assistance would be appreciated. (Submitted February 2007)

I am seeking any and all families related to and of the McGIFFORD surname. This family originated in Ireland during the Plantation period and flourished in the Antrim & Down areas of Northern Ireland. In the early days some emigrated to various areas of the world such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.A. We are striving to put these branches back onto the limb to make a complete tree. There were only 80 births & marriages in Ireland in the Civil Registry. The main areas of this line are Belfast, Hillsborough, Lisburn and Down Patrick. Killyleagh was in the middle. Any help would be appreciated.  (Submitted June 2005)

I and other descendants have repeatedly hit the brick wall with our illustrious Francis PLACE, who married Ann ROBINSON, 26 Feb 1786, Grinton, Swaledale, NRY. There were PLACE family members in the Grinton area before 1786, so it seems unlikely that he wondered in from afar, in fact the marriage entry says 'of this Parish'. Francis was a miner & school teacher. If anyone is interested in his descendants, I can probably account for most of them. (Submitted February 2006)

Researching BRIGHT, CHESTER (Allendale, NBL, 19thC). Looking for connections to John BRIGHT and his wife Hannah CHESTER, who in 1881 were living at Sipton Terrace, Allendale, NBL, with 9 children. One of their children, Matthew Henry BRIGHT was my Gt. Grandfather who married Hannah Margaret Jane BARNARD in Tynemouth, NBL, in 1898. They lived in Newcastle, NBL and had five children - John Barnard, Utrick, Will, Hannah and Jane. I am hopeful that there are living descendants in the Allendale area. (Updated May 2006)

I am trying to find the family of John JACKSON, born approx. 1910, who in 1932 married Sarah Elizabeth OPIE.   They had three known children , John D, Thelma and Beryl E, before John was killed in action on 6 June 1942 in Egypt. They were all born in the 1930's in the Stockton on Tees area of DUR, two at 14 Gayles Street. I would appreciate any help to find the correct John JACKSON's family. (Entered September 2002)
